30 Things At 30

30 Things At 30

Just before 2013 ended I turned 30. Years ago when I think of hitting this milestone I have an idea in my mind on what it would be like, and of course surely enough it didn't came to be. However the reality is I am in a better place than where I thought I'd be , so no complaints here.

(This is Reg surprise salubong cake. And his attempt to cut it)

As I look back I find myself picking up things that surprised me. Surprised in a sense that some things that I thought were just loop holes in life does started to really make sense. I told my mom about this and she said "Yup, that's maturity." So thanks, Mom, for making me feel old. =)   (though in no way I claim that I am mature in my ways. I still have loads to learn)

Anyways here are 30 things that took me 30 years to learn.

1. Family will stand the test of time. You may disappear for  years, lose everyone you know, lose everything you have, forget who you are, but your family never will. They are the one who you can get back to even when all else fails. No questions. Just pure love.

2. Real friends doesn't need constant communication. They are those who you just pick up exactly where you left off.

3. Loving my body. This is the only one I've got. I may not like it some days but this is what I am stuck with and I'll do everything to take care of it. Listen to it it will tell you what it needs.

4. I have never felt more beautiful, happy and confident with my body now than I was in my 20's.

5. Make up. Late bloomer as I am I discovered the wonders of make up just as I am about to clock my three decades. They sure enhance your features rather than making a new one.

6. Believe in the quote "What other people thinks of me, is none of my business." Whoever made this, you are a genius.

7. Insecurities will always try to get the better of you, you just have to make a choice of letting it. And really some days are harder than the other. Mine is a constant battle.

8. Books will bring you to places you've never been into, world that you never knew existed, friends you'll never meet and lessons that you'll never get from school.

9.Vitamins and supplements. Had I know better, I would have started as soon as I turned eighteen. However its never too late to start.

10. Written notes, letters, cards etc still has the magic to make you feel giddy and happy. As much as I love the convenience of technology a written I Miss You is different from a text one.

11. Going to church for an hour a week has now become a must. One out of 168 hours is enough to put your thoughts into perspective and just pause before you start on again.

12. Visiting the dentist is a must. My parents were not the keenest when it comes to the dentist but it sure is one that I wished they had been and which I will now stick on to.

13. Subsequently, hold on to your teeth for as long as you can. If it needs root canal treatment to keep it do it. For once its out you can never have them back. Real ones for that matter.

14. Eat healthy. Or at least try. It is a battle but just keep on trying. Spinach and broccoli is not that bad.

15. Invest on clothes that will last. I am guilty of buying stuff that I can only wear on certain times. An utter fail in my decision making which I am now trying to correct. Trying.

16. Cooking is just matter of persistence. And patience. Cookbooks, You Tube and Internet are great teachers. Though if you can learn it from Mom, even better.

17. Baking is a concise art. Measurements should be exact. And if it fails just try again. For you are bound to make failure before you get it right.

18. And if you really are passionate about baking invest in good proper equipment they will make the difference in your product.

19. Clean your make up brushes once a week you don't want those bacteria hogging bristles touching your face.

20. Moisturise. "What you look like in you 40 is your gift to yourself." (as the saying goes) I'm taking this line at heart.

21. Sunblock. Use one even if your not swimming (the only time to use it I was made to believe by my aunt when I was younger). Everyday protection goes a long way.

22. Why I love Christmas is tribute to my parents. For it means I have the best memories of the holidays that I am looking forward to it every year. No fail.

23. And Christmas is not Christmas without a Christmas tree.

24. Dreams are reachable if you just work hard, harder, and hardest. They really are.

25. When you want something focus on it and don't loose sight. It might take a while to get it but you will, eventually.

26. Fights and battles are a matter of choice. When presented with something, you can either decide to take it or just rise above it and move on. Hard stuff but real.

27. If you've got nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all. In short keep your mouth shut. This came from my father and guess what, it works.

28. If a secret or information is not yours to tell then don't. Especially in a workplace, this is priceless.

29. You can't please everybody but you can try. And if they still don't, forget it it's their problem not yours. You've done your bit so carry on.

30. I don't owe Everybody an explanation. What I do is on my own accord and if it involves somebody else then its just between that somebody and me.

Well, that's it. My 30 nuggets. I wonder what the next 10 years will make me realise. =)

My People of 2013

My People of 2013

Its now 12 days since the new year and I cant help but wonder where the 12 days went. So before it gets further down 2014 might as well remember (and document.. ) the people who made 2013 beautiful for me.

1. Stanley Tan

Couldn't ask for a better brother in law. For accommodating us while we were home and for going all those extra mile for making our vacation memorable and comfortable. You sure surprised Reg more than you'll ever know. For everything thank you.

2. Romeo and Sonia Zarris

The most good hearted people I know. They single handedly made me believe that people still care about others. Their kindness knows no boundaries. They are beautiful people inside and out for they are generous as they are loving. They loved Reg and me without any condition and judgement. We love you so much.

3. Danielle Viendo

For always being there and not letting go. For remembering what matters and for forging what will. You amazed me for letting go a job dreamt by so many to focus on your marriage you are truly admirable. A woman of strength and will. And since then until now distance may have been far and our talks has lessened yet you are always on my side. Whenever and whatever.

4. Krisheil Agnes

It has been 10 years ago since we shared that room in the Big City. It was a time of learning and living life as real as it can get to our 19 year old self. Im sure there were decisions that in retrospect we wished we made differently but what it gave us was friendship beyond distance and time. I have always admired your honesty, will power and most especially your wit. I love your humor and how you can perceive things differently and always better. Those times were trying but  I  wont hesitate doing it all over again with you.

5. Eugene Mc Kenny

For trusting me in being able to do my job before I did thank you. And for all the help and support you gave me in making through the course. For all the advice and direction it is a pleasure working with you. I learn loads.

6. Fadi Barrak

For bringing good vibes and quiet time in a usually stressing and hectic shift. For continually offering avenues in improving one's peace of mind. For always sharing the gospel, it is what we all need. Its always a pleasure to work with you. Thank you.

7. Marius Gerber

Thank you for sharing with me those knowledge and for giving me the opportunity to experience what it's like to be on the other side of the dental chair. For helping me without anything in return and unconditionally, you inspired me to make you proud. I'm lucky to have you as my mentor.

8. Fr. Arnold Deletina

In the short time that we met you shared with us one of the best moments in our lives. Not only did you grace us with your help but you made the occasion extra special and personal as it can be. Your help and presence was a blessing.

9. Tanya Kenny

For being so patient with me in my course, for not hesitating in helping me when I get stuck, for guiding me along the way and for seeing me until the end. I'm nearly there Tan. I'm so glad you are my tutor it made this whole endeavor easier.

10. Mayk Perricon

I've always known that we would have you on our special occasion even before we met you. Meeting and having you in that event was exactly how I imagined it to be. Looking back to what you did after all this months makes me happy and proud. And surely it will always be in the next months and years to come.

Making this makes me feel so blessed.
