It's always a joy finding a book that will get to you. More if it's from an author unknown to you before, like in two out of three in my case. I have read decent number of books but not all of them became my favourites so let me share my top three. If I can only have a number of books to last me a lifetime then these three would be it. That is of course until I stumble upon another, which would make it four.
1. If Tomorrow Comes.
I first read this book when I was in High School and this got me hooked to the author. The Author! Enough said. Now that I have all his collection this here will always me my number 1. Number of times read: I lost count.
2. Doctors
I came across this book in college and just the same, hooked to the author. Though I haven't got all his books yet (I'm still missing 3...). I stumbled upon this when I passed by the city public library in Silay years and years ago. Browsing through the shelves this book was the only bright blue in a row of dark colour covered ones, so I picked it up on random and started reading. Lo and behold I couldn't stop. I didn't have a library card then so I had to search for somebody I know who works on the City Hall just to sign my reference for me to get a temporary card to let me check itout. Phew! When I returned it I knew that I have to have THE book. So I went through bookstores only to find out that this was not readily available. Oh and what bookstores I've been to. They have almost everything but this. I even went back to the library to buy it from there or even sneak it out if I have to, but when I checked it was also gone. And I checked not only once! My search and love affair with this book lasted for many years, until 3 years ago. The world of Amazon and EBay was opened to me. And for my first ever purchase, of course it has to be THIS! Number of times read: Same as above.
3. Night Circus.
Hmm, this is rather a nice surprise for me. For I bought this book only in a moment of impulse not too long ago. I was feeling so tired and spent that I just desperately needed to unwind. So obviously I went to the bookstore and bought the first one that caught my attention. And my, did it surprise me. I am always fussy with writing style but this author did a very brilliant job. For a complex and artsy plot she was able to describe every detail with perfection. You can almost see and smell and hear what she is describing. It’s just amazing. I can hardly put the book down. It made my travel to and fro to work something to look forward to. Number of times read: 2 (Not bad considering it is just a few weeks old.) Latest count 4.
There! My top three books. I'm looking forward to add more to my list.
PS Thanks to online shopping finding a book nowadays, is as easy as point and click, but thinking about it the book hunting that I did years ago actually made getting the book extra sweeter. Not counting the fact that it made me discover hidden gems tucked in unexpected places may it be an offbeat street or a forgotten shelf.
